I love movies.

I love movies of every variety, from classic cinema and foreign films, to light comedies and
blast 'em up action films.

And while I may enjoy a meaty, substance-filled story over a cotton-candy comedy, I don't
think I've seen a film yet that hasn't had some element, scene, or quality that I couldn't
appreciate.

I like films that make me think, that inspire in me the desire to delve deeper into the
glimpses of psychology we are given. But I like to laugh too, and there is power in laughter,
in laughing at ourselves or some aspect of life. Both sides are easily found in films from all
eras.

The history found in film can speak to us on levels that are sometimes subtle, sometimes
overt, but always interesting in the context of vision, societal expectations, and the
message of the film's directors and producers. Watching remakes of films, or different
generation's takes on certain myths or classical literature provides a picture of how we
have evolved and changed as a society.

The art of moviemaking has evolved as well - from grainy, shaky, black and white images
without sound to the newest in CGI special effects, there are well over a hundred years of
world vision out there, and with the advent of DvD and digital technology, more and more
movies are made easily available to us through our local video stores, and through mail
order services like Netflix.

Let's turn down the lights and nibble on our popcorn. The curtain is about to rise.
